Timeline of Key Actions by Sport Organisations on Homophobia and Transphobia in sport

Rugby Stadium

This timeline was created to illustrate to politicians, LGBTQ leaders, researchers, and sport leaders why researchers say action on homophobia and transphobia in sport has been limited. You can see we have been going in circles for two decades. Most actions by sports have been reactive to legal or political threats.

It is important for everyone to understand where we have been so that we can focus finding sustainable, meaningful ways to stop the harmful discrimination the LGBTQ people experience in sport.

NOTE: this website is temporary. It was created to make this timeline available prior to the launch of the new Out on the Fields website on 3 Dec.
